Bob McCarthy and his wife Cheryl moved to Bellingham in 2011 from suburban Chicago. Bellingham was Bob’s ninth move in his 40-year career with BP (two of those moves were in London) so he figured his tenure at Bellingham’s Cherry Point refinery would just be another three-year stint before another move. Fifteen years later, now retired and still here, Bob and Cheryl have truly made Bellingham their home.

Bob holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering. His career included roles in project management, strategic planning, operations, and safety. In retirement he is active in the leadership of local boating groups and his neighborhood association. Bob, an avid tennis player, is a regular for early morning sessions at Bellingham Training & Tennis Club. Bob and Cheryl have three daughters, all married, and seven grandchildren ages 1 to 6 in Seattle, Chicago, and Santa Clara. They spend as much time as they can with their “littles.”

Since his father was a concert-quality tenor and audiophile, Bob grew up appreciating music of all kinds, especially classical and ‘70s art rock, and is excited to join the BFM team.
