Emerald City Music Returns

Emerald City Music celebrates with two impactful works based on the number seven, including the solo cello work Seven (2020) by Spanish-born cellist and composer Andrea Casarrubios, Seven honors essential workers and commemorates hope during the COVID-19 pandemic. Written in Manhattan, the piece ends with seven bell-like sounds, alluding to New York’s daily 7 PM tribute during the lockdown, the moment when New Yorkers clapped from their windows, connecting with each other and expressing appreciation for those on the front lines. Praised by The New York Times for having “traversed the palette of emotions” with “gorgeous tone and edge of-seat intensity,” Casarrubios has appeared at Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Lincoln Center and more.

The stunning Beethoven’s Septet will also be performed. Septet was sketched out in 1799, completed, and first performed in 1800 and published in 1802. It is recognized as one of Beethoven’s most successful and popular works.

Emerald City Music has been a proud partner with the Bellingham Festival of Music since 2018, creating a regional network to experience top-tier artists in unique concert settings. The evening features a cast of seven amazing musicians including Kristin Lee, violin; Dana Kelley, viola; Thomas Mesa, cello; Jennifer Godfrey, bass; Peter Kolkay, bassoon; Yoonah Kim, clarinet and Eric Reed, horn. All are hailed as the most remarkable, versatile, and engaging young performers in performance today.

We do hope you will join us for this most special evening.
