Each winter, the Festival offers aprelude to its summer events by presenting a major soloist or ensemble in recital. This year, the Bellingham Festival of Music is delighted to present the Intersection Trio for its annual winter recital, February 8, 2018 at 7:30 PM in Western Washington University’s Performing Arts Center.Composed of the widely admired violinist Laura Frautschi, cellist Kristina Reiko Cooper, and pianist John Novacek, the Trio is known for seamlessly dovetailing a wide variety of repertoire including Classical, Jazz, Latin, Broadway/film music and new commissions in its concert programs. The Seattle Times has called its performances “superb—with an emotional spectrum from the wildly irrepressible to the thoughtful and nostalgic.”
An annual event that serves as a prelude to the summer concert season, the Festival’s winter/spring recitals feature performances by some of the outstanding soloists and ensembles on the concert scene.Among performers who have appeared in the past are violinist Hilary Hahn and pianist Ilya Yakushev.
This year, in honor of the Festival’s 25th Silver Anniversary season, tickets for the concert are specially priced at $25 for adults, $10 for students. Tickets are now on sale at the WWU PAC box office, 360-650-6146 or www.tickets.wwu.edu
The hallmarks of an INTERSECTION evening include soulful expression, instrumental virtuosity, and playful banter in which the realms of concert and popular music are seamlessly dovetailed. They blend classical, jazz, Latin, Broadway/film music, new commissions along with their own compositions and arrangements. Diamond-hard brilliance, uncommonly poetic depths… breathtaking in precision, dexterity, and unanimity of attack.
