November 2016 Newsletter

Thank you to everyone who attended the Annual Membership Meeting in October at the beautiful Lairmont Manor. For those of you in attendance and to you who were unable to attend, we thank you for your continued support of the Bellingham Festival of Music. As an all volunteer, community supported non-profit, we could not fulfill our mission of presenting world-class classical music of the highest artistic excellence without all of you—our wonderful patrons and volunteers!

As we prepare for our 24th Festival Season, we hope we can count on your continued generous support. Our annual development drive begins this month, so please watch for your membership letter in the mail. And, do let us know if you have any suggestions or comments to make your membership more valuable. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I thank each of you for your inspiring and generous support.

2017 Special Events

During the Annual Meeting, Festival Chair, Karen Berry also revealed additional events including the return for a March 19 recital of pianist Ilya Yakushev, an immediate hit when he substituted on short notice last summer, playing the Mendelssohn Piano Concerto No. 1. There will also be the annual Welcome Home Recital, January 7, by Bellingham-trained guitarist Eli Schille-Hudson. The annual Play it Forward residency in March (exact dates TBD) will once again feature gifted young musicians from the Colburn Conservatory who will visit middle and high school classrooms, and offer masterclasses and community concerts in Bellingham and Whatcom County. “Beethoven in the Schools,” the “Blue Skies for Children” collaboration, support for Fifth Grade Strings, and other outreach activities will also continue in the year ahead.

We also want to express our appreciation to the three talented performers who entertained us at the Annual Meeting, making the evening special for everyone.
