5th Grade Strings Program

Wanting to share the love of music with the youngest people in our lives, the Festival of Music Board approved in January 2016 a $10,000 grant to purchase stringed instruments for the 5th Grade Strings Program in the Bellingham Public Schools. The Program ensures that every BPS 5th grader has an opportunity to receive instruction on and play a stringed instrument.

BFM board member, and professional luthier, Barry Hembree worked with Stephanie Korn, Director of Teaching and Learning for BPS, to determine their needs and acquire the instruments. We are pleased to announce that through these efforts a collection of 42 violins, violas and cellos were purchased and delivered to BPS.
